Happy Birthday To Andy 46 Today!

The Simply Workspace Technical Director is 46 today....!!!   To celebrate Andy Jacobs special day we allowed ourselves 18 holes this morning followed by Birthday cake and a cuppa in the office.

Some would say Andy is ageing well but of course those who know him would disagree.  Andy had a tough paper round when he was younger and even with the man makeup he applies everyday, nothing can be done about the receding hairline, the bald patch beginning to appear on top of his head and his memory loss which affects us all in the office.

Happy Birthday Andy and well done on your 125 shot round today!

 

***Editor's note:  Actually I'm 37 and have more hair than my commercial director.  Most of his is on his knuckles.

Things Are Hotting up for Simply Workspace

Last week, Simply Workspace attended the UK Science Park Association meeting, held at the Hardwick Hall Hotel in Darlington. The meeting was hosted by NETPARK and saw some 70 members turn up for the two day event which was focused on Innovation Connectors - examining how Science Parks can become more embedded in their locality for the benefit of all.

This was the first time that Simply Workspace were introduced to the members face to face, having agreed a partnership with the Association back in May 2010. The meeting went well and gave us the opportunity to give comfort to the Innovation community about the service which Simply workspace can offer.

Simply Workspace now offer Virtual Offices

simplyworkspace.com are now offering Virtual Offices space across the UK.  We have partnered The Virtual Office Company who are the market leaders in this sector and have almost 200 locations country wide.  This is another service added on to our easy to use website which has already resulted in a few enquiries.

Just how many Offices and Workshops can one person add to the Simply Workspace website in one day.......? Well 30 is pretty good going and that has been my daily target this week, so that we can start to clear the backlog of locations waiting to be added.

Landlords all over the country are starting to hear about the 'transparent' service Simply Workspace are offering and early feedback has been very promising. We now have over 1000 listings either on or waiting to be added to our site which includes all of the Science Parks within the UK.

As a reward for our efforts, we played 9 holes this morning. Tee off at 0715 on Hayling Island, where the weather was perfect and the course was in superb condition. The highlight of the morning was Andy's drive off the 8th. He lined himself up perfectly and took what looked to be the perfect swing. Nothing was going to stop him making at least 200 yards on this one, you could see it in his eyes. (I should also point out that Andy recently purchased some online training tips) Whack.............. what a hit...... 2ft and not anywhere close to the ladies tee. This boy is good and the training has certainly helped.

So what next for Simply Workspace? We will be concentrating on listings and the optimisation strategy which is working so well at the moment (see previous blogs). There will also be a few changes to the website to enable the best user experience and maximize any opportunities which come our way. We are also in the process of adding a 'Virtual Office' section and are looking forward to welcoming a new member to the Simply Workspace team at the end of the month - more on this later.......

Subtle Changes and More Properties

We're making some subtle layout changes to the site and introducing some new incentives for potential tenants and also people who can refer possible tenants to us.  If you're thinking of moving or you know someone who's thinking of moving then pass them our way and we'll pay £250 in cash as soon as you move in.

In addition, we're still adding properties all the time and continue to add new clients to our unique marketing packages.  The premise of these packages is that you spend an amount of money and we market your listing specifically. This means that you benefit directly from our efforts.

UKSPA (UK Science Park Association) have agreed that all "Innovation Space" listed on the Association website can also be promoted through simplyworkspace.com.

simplyworkspace.com is now in it's 13th week and is making fantastic progress through search engine rankings.  The Science Parks and Innovation Space went live on the 19th July 2010 and makes up some 65 locations across the UK.  Simply Workspace Ltd are officially the only online broker to have agreed a partnership with UKSPA which, given the early stages of our development, is a significant move forward.

More Lovely Office Space For Rent!

Over the last few days we've seen another influx of operators asking to be listed with Simply Workspace.  One operator has a fabulous portfolio of serviced offices and business centres spread from Bournemouth, through London and into Kent.

This particular operator has really concentrated on the quality of everything in their centres from the reception areas where a great first impression is created, to high quality kitchen areas and break-out areas, to the actual office space that you're going to be working in.

Having seen literally thousands of images of offices, I'm really coming to understand the importance of the working environment.  And that's from the perspective of a business owner who has to spend time in the officce and also when you're thinking about your staff.  Moving offices is stressful enough without the politics.  We had a discussion about the 'Walkscore' function on our listings and whether it was appropriate.  The concensus here is that if you're moving into an area that you don't know particularly well and you have staff moving with you then it is important.  All our lsitings have a tab on (shown below) that says 'Walkscore'.

Walkscore will show you all the amenities that are in the vicinity of the office you're interested in.  By default, it shows the closest in each category.  By clicking on the little arrows to the right of the distance you can scroll through and see what else there is available in that category.  So, even if you don't know what's around, this useful little tab will give you a decent insight before you think about a viewing.

Today's Power Meeting

golf07.15 am this morning saw the 4th of our weekly power meetings where Andy and I discuss our strategies for global domination.  Our boardroom is the back 9 of Furzely Golf Course and the weather this morning made for a spectacular day.

The image you see is the hole after Andy shot 17 trying to clear a small pond.  The brand new box of 12 Taylor Made balls was reduced to just 4 after this one short round.

Things did improve slightly for Andy, he found a ball on the 8th!!

Next weeks meeting will be on Friday morning, although I am considering playing alone and letting Andy do what he's best at....... letting office space....

On a serious note, our optimization strategy for search engines is moving forward at some pace.  We now are approaching 1000 pages listed with Google and seeing the odd enquiry come through.  In addition, serviced office providers are now finding us and listing their space through our site which is fantastic news.

We will shortly be changing the functionality to the map on our homepage for ease of use and the business Portal is now live with various businesses waiting to be listed.  The Portal is there to assist businesses who find workspace through our site.

Ok - on with some work before I slope off early......

TODAY'S TIP: Saving Properties

On the Simply Workspace site, you're browsing through and finding properties that you like the look of.  When we started, you needed to sign up for an account in order to save these to your short list and it was a bit of a pain.

Now, we've set it up so that you can add properties to your short list without being signed in.  This short list will remain in place until you close your browser and then it will disappear.  We don't retain any of your information at all.

When you view your save properties, you can fill in a simple enquiry form with your details which will come through to us and we'll contact you.

If you want to save your properties indefinitely then you can still sign up for an account.  There's nothing sinister about this; it just gives our systems a means by which you can be identified if you choose to login later to view your favourites.

Search Engine Optimisation

Part of the marketing strategy for Simply Workspace is going to be some very aggressive search engine optimisation.  Google accounts for over 50% of the searches done on the internet so that's what we use as our benchmark but we have to recognise that there are 5 or 6 other search engines that account for the other 50%.
